Artist Statement

My name is Yuxuan Han, I also go by Cecilia. I am a Chinese Filmmaker. My area of expertise is as a producer, and I am very interested in writing stories. I have also created many experimental films, and editing video is also my strength. The surreal element occupies a large part of my work. I love the science fiction genre, and often this kind of subject matter inspires me. But my work is not simply science fiction, I also focus on the presentation of feelings in film, and I specialize in using supernatural elements to highlight human flaws or to reflect the current state of society.

I think writing is the best medium for me to create. Because words are diverse and there are few parts that film can show, words can give people more imagination. Different people will have different opinions about the same words, and that's the beauty of words. As a writer, what excites me most is that my readers can share the same insights as I do in reading my work. This gives me a commonality with my readers and gives me a passion for creative writing. I think the most interesting point is that sometimes, after reading my work, my readers can even bring up points that I never thought of, which gives my work a more multi-layered understanding.

When I am creating a work, I will first clarify what the purpose of my work is. I usually find a common problem in life and then use my work to reflect that problem. For example, the characters in my work, or the things they do. Then I will clarify what message I want to convey to my audience. This is the most important point, and I usually revise my work again and again, for this reason, to make sure that my readers are similar to what I want to say. Finally, I look at a lot of related genres to get inspiration. I think the most important point of creative work is to be clear about my purpose, only then can my work achieve it more directly.
